Essential Carp Fishing Rods and Tackle
Once you start carp fishing it will probably be difficult to get you to stop. They are definitely exciting fish to catch. It is important to find a light and flexible rod and more than likely they will be described as “through action.” Don’t go light on the test you use because carp are notorious for giving you the fight of a life.
Most wouldn’t chance a 1 lb test. If you can go anywhere from 2-3 lb test. The reel should be able to cast a long distance because carp like to stay in the middle where they can hide out. When you see a carp fishing rod , it may look a tad different from a regular reel with an abbreviated handle.

Most experienced carp fishers will try to get you to use as many rods as you can. This is why they are so often sold in a set. Carp fishing is about being patient and being able to cover up the water in front of you when the time comes. As a beginner it is recommended to get at least two affordable rods and save the rest until you decide to upgrade down the road (which you will). If you are fishing close in than make sure you find a carp rod that has an all through action. For longer distance fishing medium action rod will suffice. This means the tip will bend a good ways and give you plenty of play for reeling them in.
