Is a Carp Rod & Reel Enough to Catch the Big Boys?
Unfortunately, not! It is dire that you get a rod that is manufactured for carp and a reel that suits the rod. But you also need to make sure you have special lures and equipment designed for carp themselves.
Obviously, your rod and reel are most important but a dedicated and determined carp angler will also have a tackle box, a casting glove, a spare boat battery if you are using a bait boat, and a carp care kit. The carp care kit will help to treat mouth injuries that occur when the fish are snared.
Do I really Need a 4 Series Carp Rod?
You will notice as you search for carp fishing rods and other fishing gear that there are many 4 rod series that are meant for beginners. The basics include a rod with a 3lb test curve and upwards. These rods will allow you to catch fish at least a 100 yards off of the shore.
Bigger carp tend to concentrate in the middle of rivers or seas. You don’t need to invest in any of the rods that are sold in a series but as time goes on you will probably add to your collection so you will be prepared to fish carp no matter where you are.
