Choosing a Surf Fishing Rod Reel Package

Surfing from the beach is an exciting way to fish. You never know what you are going to pull up which is why the surf fishing rod reel you choose will make a big difference in how well you do. The rule of thumb for surf fishing is to start with at least a nine-foot fishing rod that will be able to pull the bigger fish from the water.

The rod should not be that soft and shouldn’t have a lot of flex in the tip. Make sure that it will hold up to a 4 ounce rig for surf fishing. Most surf fisherman use live bait but you should bring a few lures to the beach as well.

Surf Fishing Rod Reel are not the Only Essentials to Beach Fishing

If you are vacationing at a beach and can’t wait to throw your lure into the salty waves, than don’t go without a sand stake. The waves, wind and sand can make surf fishing brutal. You will also have to get accustomed to the normal undertow motion felt on the rod or else you will be reeling in almost as quickly as you cast out. If you are a first timer, bring several lures and make sure you are using a spinning reel that will cast past the breaks of the waves.
