How to Buy Fishing Rods and Reels

There are basically 7 things to look at when you are trying to buy fishing rods and reels.  You need to look at the handles that the rods come equipped with first and the number of ball bearings that the reel has.  On average, most less expensive fishing reels will have 2 ball bearings but more than 5 is optimal and means you are purchasing a rod that will perform better on the water.

You also do not want to buy a reel that spins backwards too much after you tighten your line and the higher the ball bearings the less likely it will be to do so.  Depending on what you are fishing for, you need to make sure that you purchase line that will stand up to the size fish you are catching.  For 15 pound and less a 1-2 pound test should do fine but for larger fish, you will need at least a 3lb test.  If you are interested in deep-sea fishing, check with locals and find out the average size fish you will be prone to catching and adjust your line accordingly.

Fishing Rods and Reels Differ Greatly

Fishing rods and reels differ greatly depending on the type of fishing you are doing – You would never want to take a rod and reel that is suitable for a lake or river out on the ocean and vice versa.  Before you purchase anything, be realistic about your level of interest and your preferred fishing spots. This way you will get the perfect fishing rod and reel for you without spending way too much money.
